Associate of Arts and Science Degree

The UW Colleges' Associate of Arts and Science Degree allows students to satisfy general education requirements and foundation courses for a major. The degree fulfills minimum university-wide, general education and breadth requirements at UW Institutions. Transfer students may be required to complete additional general education courses if they are required of continuing students at the four-year campus.

If you know your future plans, the Associate Degree can help save you time and tuition. If you aren't sure of your future plans, the Associate Degree will help you develop skills needed to succeed in your university education and in life.

It is your responsibility to become familiar with the degree requirements and to meet all deadlines. Use the Associate Degree Requirements/Worksheet (PDF) to keep a record of your progress toward the degree. Consult the Schedule of Classes for the current semester offerings. For further assistance, please consult your Faculty, Study Center or Student Services advisor who will be happy to assist you in evaluating your progress toward completion of the degree.

Degree Requirements:

  1. Earn a minimum of 60 credits.
  2. Complete at least 24 of the 60 credits, or earn at least 12 of the last 24 credits, at a UW College.
  3. A student must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 earned at UW-Waukesha and 2.0 overall GPA in credits applied to the Associate of Arts and Science Degree.
  4. Be enrolled at a UW College during the semester you complete the degree requirements, or have earned 60 degree credits prior to transferring from a UW College to a University of Wisconsin baccalaureate institution.

NOTE: The mathematics course used to satisfy the core requirement may not be used to satisfy breadth requirements.

*SPECIAL NOTE: MAT 108 is designed primarily for students whose majors do not require advanced mathematics. Therefore, care should be exercised in selecting MAT 108 to satisfy the Associate Degree requirements. Please consult your faculty, Study Center or Student Services advisor.

BREADTH REQUIREMENTS

Each course will satisfy the requirement in only one of the following breadth categories:

  • Fine Arts (FA) and Humanities (HU)
A minimum of 9 credits is required with at least 1 course in Fine Arts (FA) and 1 course in Humanities (HU). The third course may be either Fine Arts or Humanities.
