Evolution

This week's WarmUp will ask you questions about Darwin's life experience and his Theory of Evolution by Means of Natural Selection.  Your answers should be 3-4 sentences in length and well written.

  1. Please identify and describe yourself:
    First Name Last Name
    ID Number
  2. What is your group number?

  3. Are prokaryotes or eukaryotes more evolutionarily advanced? Explain your answer in 3-4 well written sentences.

  4. Why was Darwin's 5 year voyage on the HMS Beagle so important to the development of his theory of evolution?

  5. Blue geese and snow geese have different appearances, but are considered the same species.  Mule deer and white-tail deer closely resemble each other, but are considered different species.  What distinguishes a species in nature? Explain your answer in 3-4 well written sentences.

  6. OPTIONAL: I will not cut and paste your responses into PowerPoint, but I am interested in your thoughts on this matter and will discuss them in class.  Do you think that one has to give up their belief in God in order to accept evolution, or that one has to reject the ideas of evolution in order to maintain their religious beliefs?  Is it possible to "have your cake and eat it too", i.e., can one believe in God and accept the evidence of evolution?
