By UW-Waukesha

College is the perfect time to experience new things. As a student, you will discover your personal interests and learn what you truly enjoy doing. It’s easy to let this time in your life fly by, so don’t miss out on all of the fun things you can do. Use your time at UW-Waukesha to knock these five items off your college bucket list.

Jam Out at Friday Night Live

Even if your instrument is just air guitar, Friday Night Live in downtown Waukesha is a great time. Being the birthplace of Les Paul, Waukesha has a love for music. Each Friday evening in the warmer months, local bands play, most shops and restaurants are open and people fill the streets. Come and enjoy this local tradition.

Explore Retzer Nature Center

Whether it’s hiking in the summer or snowshoeing in the winter, Retzer Nature Center is a beautiful place to explore in Waukesha. Located inside their main building is a planetarium open to the public on certain days. In the fall, they have an annual Apple Harvest Festival where you can enjoy a caramel apple, listen to live music and participate in many fun fall activities.

Stargaze at Glacier Cone Park

If you’re looking for a good view of Waukesha, trek up Glacier Cone Park. Once you are atop the hill, the view is well worth the hike. It is the perfect spot to see the city lights, while also enjoying the stars in the sky. A truly special, hidden spot in Waukesha.

Climb the Lapham Peak Tower

If you go to Lapham Peak, you have to climb the 45-foot tall tower. Though it is a bit tiring, you will find the best view of the park. The ideal time to go is in fall to see all the changing leaves. The rest of the park is fun to explore and hike around too!

Unwind at Pewaukee Beach

Need a way to relieve some stress? Spend an afternoon relaxing at Pewaukee Beach. Across the street from the beach, there’s some brightly colored shops and restaurants to check out. Every Thursday evening in the summer, Pewaukee Lake Ski Club puts on a free ski show. There’s plenty to do at this close to campus destination.

These five activities are a great start for any UW-Waukesha student interested in making the most of their time in college.
