One Word
Silent is the day's great dawn,
velvety and sweet. A lark sings softly in the mourn,
life is incomplete. Silent though the heart may beat,
its ringing can be heard. The last kiss on a moonlit night,
the utterance of one word.
Lost?
What do I see as I greet each day.
Who do I turn to when you look away.
Why does the sun seem so cold and alone.
Where hides the moon while my heart turns to stone.
What do I know that can be my own.
Who can I give to without false approach.
Why must one's tenderness so quickly fade.
Where is the freedom we so desperately crave.
What is a life - to live and to die.
Who has the right to look in your eyes.
Why must we run - frightened and shocked.
Where can you go when the doors are all locked.
Can we but follow the footsteps before.
Our can we try to open our own door.
Together
In the heartbeat that we know is the shadow of
a fear,
that guides us as we grow through our strife's and doubts and
tears.
And if we stand together and if we face the truth,
then in this special longing our tree of love shall root.
Its growth should be through constant care.
Its flourish through our cherish dear.
Its branches flowered every spring.
Its leaves our bed will autumn bring.
As long as it is held by both, the roots will strengthen deep.
It cannot live as separate wholes; complete the two shall keep.
And when the day has come for one to walk alone,
the tree shall be their memory - a cane to help them home.
Dance
Twin eyes of blue
in a velvet face
strands of gold
and silver lace
She danced for the father
she danced for the son
she danced in the morning
till the day was done
Many watched her form
many caught her glance
still none had the courage
to ask her for a dance
And so she floated - all alone
her footsteps ever-light
but within her lithe body
her heart had turned to ice
All saw her beauty
for she wore it very well
her hair an amber mantle
her mind an empty well
Two cycles passed
and still she grew
in her, womanhood
had blossomed anew
Yet her dances slowed
and her eyes cast down
her velvet was stained
her lace dragged the ground
A hardened heart
is what she hid
eyes of blue
that were almost dead
So now she danced
for stranger men
the town she left
in memories dim
Married men and drunken lovers
would try to chase her under covers
She'd dance and then run
then fall in a heap
she'd cry and she'd cry
till no longer she'd weep
Her dreams had faded
and nightmares came
wild flame horses
none could tame
The dance was a ritual
formal and trite
but now no one saw her
she danced in the night
Throughout the lands
her steps had gone
her vanishing hopes
fled with each dawn
The light in the west
laughed at her song
but the light in the east
carried her on
But kindness was gone
they called her unpure
a pain close to torture
she could not endure
Yet still she dreamed
as people might
with thoughts of love
into each night
Her dances stopped
her heart caved in
she wandered away
and sat in the bin
She sat in all silence
empty of tears
pondered in anger
in spite of her fears
She heard not his step
light as it was
yet she felt his approach
from heaven's above
He was but a farmer
she paid him no mind
he moved in closer
his eyes spoke in kind
"Why all this pain?
the world is new.
The meadow's are golden
the grass wet with dew."
Inside her heart
a fire sparked
she rose up slowly
feeling its mark
"For you I will dance
yet ask nothing back.
You seem a kind soul
I trust to your tact."
This dance was for him
not just for herself
a gift of her heart
to one who had helped
The pain fell away
her velvet was cleansed
her glow had returned
her beauty re-sensed
She knew by his eyes
that he felt it too
questions unneeded
were answered true
He rose and advanced
taking her hands
"I wish for this dance
to not ever end."
And so from the darkness
she came into light
for each individual someone is right
Love
Alas now children do not weep
The flowers bloom in spring
Alas now children fall asleep
The night has snow to bring
And off to bed with sleepy eyes
They moved as if in trance
Their little souls so beautiful
A winter nighttime dance
She smiled sweet and bent close
To kiss them each good night
Then pulled the covers close and warm
And gently doused their light
The children sleep she said to me
And sank into my embrace
I looked deep into her eyes
And touched her subtle grace
The waiting gone again together
I pulled her close and sighed
She understood and stroked my hair
Together there we cried
The wings of love the hope of spring
Have always been a promise
And her touch and warm caress
Made all seem perfect bliss
And peacefully did I fall
Into the kind protector
My heart was right my mind correct
To want her ever after
We talked awhile I even smiled
At her stunning dress
Covered blue with lacy edge
White and silver tresses
Little things she said and did
Began to make me question
The perfume and fine wine
Seemed to me a suggestion
Talking less looking more
Seemed to be a joy
The perfection of two people
One girl the other boy
For I felt not grown
But child in that moment
She to me seemed to be
The sweet and innocent
How long we sat upon the couch
I do not care to say
I know it was not long enough
To give my heart away
But I left a part of me
Behind in that small room
On the night in sheer delight
I asked to be her groom
Her children would be happy
As we hoped we would be
For now two parents they would have
One her the other me
