Three UW-Waukesha Administrators Promoted

WAUKESHA – Three members of the academic staff at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha received promotions this spring.

Denise Spleas, the campus media guru, has been promoted from Program Manager I to Program Manager II in Media & Instruction Technology. A member of the Student Services staff, Darrin Witucki   was promoted from Associate Student Services Coordinator to Student Services Coordinator, and David Weber, who manages the Computer Center, advanced from Information Processing Consultant to Senior Information Processing Consultant.

Hired 13 years ago to manage the campus media and instructional technology, Spleas has witnessed massive growth in the field and has kept up with it. Her duties range from company photographer for the campus dramatic productions to technical support for distance education.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and in 1987 finished her master’s in communication and training technology from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, before coming to UW-Waukesha.

Since he started at UW-Waukesha three years ago, Witucki has completed a Master of Science in Communication at UW-Whitewater, received a Kaplan Fellowship, and brought a greater sense of community to the student body. He works with students to plan programs and has helped them raise their expectations of themselves and what they can accomplish.

Since 1993, Kaplan Fellowships have been awarded annually to no more than four faculty and staff on campus, recognizing them for their contributions to the quality of service to or instruction of students at UW-Waukesha.

A Kaplan Award recipient for 1999-2000, Witcki took his master’s degree this spring.  He graduated from Moorhead State University in 1994 with a degree in criminal justice and political science and a minor in multicultural studies and worked as a residence hall director at South Dakota State University before coming to UW-Waukesha. He serves on the board of the Wisconsin College Personnel Association.

Another past Kaplan Fellow, Weber has been solving problems on campus since 1989. He keeps abreast of the state of the art in the rapidly changing technology and both applies his expertise and advises departments, committees and individuals. In addition, he supervises the operations of the Computer Center. A home-grown expert, Weber earned his associate degree from UW-Waukesha in 1988; he received his Kaplan award in 1997-98.

Both Denise Spleas and David Weber live in Waukesha. Darrin Witucki lives in Whitewater.
