FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Endowed Fund to Support Faculty, Staff Development, Library Acquisition

Through a generous donation to the Friends & Alumni Foundation, SUE ANDREWS (Psychology) and former student Cindy Weix have established an endowed fund for the support of faculty and staff development and library acquisition. Combining their names, the fund will be known as the Suendy Fund.

“I feel a great deal of loyalty to the campus and appreciation for my career here,” remarked Andrews, who came to UW-Waukesha in 1968 and started her “phased retirement” in 1998. She long has planned to leave a bequest to the Foundation but recent events have made it possible to “get started while alive.” “We will continue to contribute periodically during our lifetimes,” she added.

Trained as a journalist, Weix enrolled at UW-Waukesha in 1971 to re-tool before going on for a master’s degree in educational psychology at UW-Milwaukee. As a student, she joined with a group of students and faculty who frequently retired to the old Frank’s Supper Club (site of the current Gasthaus). This cemented her relationship with the campus. When the Friends & Alumni Foundation was established in 1986, Weix was asked to serve on the board of directors. She served for 5 years, 3 as its vice president.

“Sue and Cindy have zeroed in on what will directly benefit the UW-Waukesha campus, and I know their donation will have an immediate impact,” Dean BRAD STEWART said. “We are all very grateful for their generosity.”

Long aware of the tight budgets, Andrews assessed, “I know there never was enough money for such things as faculty development.” Particularly concerned about junior faculty, who may lack the personal resources, she feels faculty and staff should be able to attend professional meetings even if they are not presenting. “It is so important, but there have not been outside sources to support this.”

Faculty, staff, and friends are invited to make contributions to increase the endowment for the Suendy Fund, which is administered by the Friends & Alumni Foundation. Guidelines and application information for help from the fund will be available soon.
