| WAUKESHA – In celebration of Black History Month, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha is holding a poetry contest. Students were invited to compete for money prizes by submitting original work to be read at noon Tuesday, February 27, on the Hub stage in the dining area.
Eight students wrote a total of 10 poems on their perceptions of the Black experience. They may read their own poems aloud or designate a different person to do the reading.
Students submitting poems are:
- Alan Bykowski, Waukesha
- Scott Johnson, Pewaukee
- Kevin Connolly, Hartland
- Jill Marie, Milwaukee
- Heidi Hildeman, Greenfield
- Bryan Shore, Milwaukee
- Jeffrey Jacobs, New Berlin
- Laura Wachowiak, Milwaukee
Judges include Associate Dean Phil Zweifel, who has taught the poetry-writing class on campus; Mark Lococo, theater director; and president of the student Literary Club, Sara Numan.
Sponsored by the University Convocations Committee, which will award prizes of $75, $50, and $25 for the three poems judged the best, the reading is open to the public at no charge. |
