| WAUKESHA – Again this summer, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha is offering students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades an opportunity to sample college and “Explore the Future.” For the 15th year, the UW-Waukesha University Camp will give students who are carrying a C or better average a taste of college life and make them aware of their future educational options.
One-week camp sessions will be held June 18-22 and June 25-29 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the UW-Waukesha campus. Enrollment is limited to20 students per session. The priority application date is May 10, but applications will be accepted until the sessions are filled.
University professors and staff will conduct introductory mini courses – enhanced with hands-on exercises – in areas such as math, engineering, biology, chemistry, computers, writing, and art. Other activities include field trips, sports, cultural programs, and a tour of the UW-Waukesha campus. On the last day of each session, students and their families are invited to a picnic and awards ceremony.
Transportation will be provided from the Waukesha middle schools. Special arrangements may be available for groups from school districts outside of Waukesha.
The camp fee of $300 per child per session covers tuition, supplies, and activities. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) offers full scholarships to qualified students of color (Hispanic, Asian-American, Native American, and African-American).
