A cooperative transfer agreement between the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the UW Colleges in American Indian studies has just been signed. The UW-Waukesha is one of 13 campuses of the UW Colleges.
UW-Eau Claire Provost Ronald Satz and UW Colleges Provost Margaret Cleek signed the agreement, which allows UW Colleges students who are participating in the UW Colleges Guaranteed Transfer Program to take American Indian studies courses at UW-Waukesha and make a seamless transfer into UW-Eau Claire's American Indian studies baccalaureate program. The Guaranteed Transfer Program enables students to begin their education as freshmen at UW-Waukesha and be guaranteed admission to a UW System institution as a junior.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for UW Colleges students interested in American Indian studies to begin taking classes at UW-Waukesha and then smoothly transfer to UW-Eau Claire's excellent program," Cleek said.
According to the transfer agreement, students will be able to take 12 to 15 credits of American Indian studies coursework at UW-Waukesha. Some of the classes offered at UW-Waukesha next year include:
Anthropology and Sociology classes in American Indian Art, Indians of North America, and Sociology of Race and Ethnicity.
English and Philosophy classes in Native American Literature and American Indian Philosophies
Upon transfer, students will complete a 36-credit Bachelor of arts or Bachelor of science degree or a 24-credit minor in American Indian studies.
Interested faculty from the UW Colleges met with faculty from UW-Eau Claire's American Indian studies program to develop a set of introductory courses to be offered at the Colleges. These courses parallel the beginning courses at UW-Eau Claire.
