WAUKESHA After a year of no increase, tuition and fees for University of Wisconsin-Waukesha students who are state residents have risen for the 2001-2002 academic year.
Full-time students (enrolled in 12-18 credits) who are residents of Wisconsin will pay $1,285.29 for tuition and segregated student fees each semester, up $81.74 or about 7 percent from the rate charged the last two years. It remains the lowest college tuition in the state. Non-resident students will pay $5,007.29, up $511.88 or 11.4 percent from last year; and tuition and fees for students covered by the Minnesota reciprocity agreement, at $1,302.29, increased $127.88.
For part-time studies (fewer than 12 credits per semester), Wisconsin resident tuition will remain $100.95 per credit, with segregated fees making the cost $107.15. For out-of-state students that will be $417.30 per credit. Auditors -- students who are taking courses for intellectual enrichment only and not earning credit for their studies -- are charged $31.00 per credit if they are residents of Wisconsin or Minnesota or $206.00 if they are not. However, that fee is waived for residents aged 60 or older, but they still are responsible for any special course or laboratory fees.
The University of Wisconsin Colleges, of which UW-Waukesha has the largest number of students, offer freshman and sophomore courses with credits guaranteed to transfer to other UW campuses, making the Colleges a financially sound choice for beginning college students.
