Assistant Dean, Admissions Counselor Join UW-Waukesha Staff

WAUKESHA – University of Wisconsin-Waukesha dean, Brad Stewart has announced the appointment of Linda Berg as the campus’ first assistant dean for administrative services and Sue Adams as its first admissions counselor. Both women started this summer.

On August 6, Linda Berg assumed the duties of assistant dean for administrative services, heading the business office and overseeing facilities maintenance functions. Her goal is “to keep us on track with our budget.”

For the previous year, she had been the senior purchasing agent for UW-Madison, working with funding of research projects. She managed procurement policies and procedures and participated in negotiating technology contracts and software license agreements. Before that she had been at UW-Parkside for 17 years, advancing from auxiliary accountant and purchasing agent to supervisor of purchasing and accounts payable.

“I’ve been a lifelong resident of Waukesha County and am looking forward to working at a UW campus in my own backyard,” said the Mukwonago resident. She also is pleased to be on a small campus where she will have the opportunity to see students and work with them. “I have a beautiful view,” she says, looking out her window toward Holy Hill.

Berg graduated from UW-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1979 and received an associate degree in data processing from WCTC in 1985. She also earned a professional diploma from the CACUBO Collegiate Management Institute in 1997 and has taken further training in copyright, legal aspects of purchasing, financial modules of PeopleSoft software, and strategic planning.

Starting July 23, Sue Adams has joined Student Services as the admissions specialist. Transferring here after working at UW-Washington County for the past 9 years, she has moved into a metamorphosed position created to handle the increasingly complicated tasks.

“Besides processing applications, I do admissions advising, telling students what they need, what is legal,” she explains. There has been a growing number of international students, she notes, and they need to be directed to the correct English proficiency test.

“I love students,” she exclaims. “I could work with them all day,” but she also has to tend to the paperwork that makes their admissions possible. She finds “There’s always a surprise,” so her work remains fresh.

A Wisconsinite who had re-located to Texas, she moved back in 1992, enrolled at UW-Washington County, and began working in admissions there. After she completed her associate degree in 1995, she went on for a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and law at UW-Madison, finishing in 1997 and all the while continuing to work in admissions.

She has gone from restaurant manager to paralegal to university admissions advisor. “I’ve got double the volume” at UW-Waukesha, she says, but she also sees opportunities for growth.

She is looking for a place to live in Waukesha.
