WAUKESHA Coordinating with the University of Wisconsin System Womens Studies conference to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha campus November 2-3, the campus Fine Arts Center Gallery will display work by women artists. The Womens Studies Invitational exhibit will open October 15 and remain hanging through November 16.
Gallery hours are 11:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, during special events, or by appointment (phone 262-521-5445). Admission is free and open to the public. The Fine Arts Center Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Center, adjacent to the lobby of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha.
UW-Waukesha assistant professor of art Barbara Reinhart and director of the Womens Studies Consortium Helen Klebesadel co-curated the exhibit. They believe that artists who are also feminists document their critical and creative thinking through art in the same way writers document their thinking via text.
All the women who have work in the show live in Wisconsin and are involved in art education in some way. Klebesadel is a conference organizer and she, Rae Atira-Soncea, Melanie Herzog, and Yumi Roth will make presentations at it.
Exhibiting artists include:
- Nicala Aiello, Racine, fiber
- Amy Arntson, Lake Mills, watercolor
- Rae Atira-Soncea, Madison, sculpture
- Sally Bowker, Menomonie, painting
