WAUKESHAStudents at all the University of Wisconsin-Colleges campuses can receive help on school papers in any discipline from student writing tutors via the Internet. They need only log onto the Online Writing Lab (OWL) Website at http://waukesha.uwc.edu/academics/owl/, which contains directions on submitting an essay as well as helpful writing tips and explanations of common grammar, punctuation, and citation usage.
Student writers who e-mail their papers to the OWL will receive an e-mailed response from a student tutor, usually within 24-48 hours on weekdays. Tutors will answer any direct questions students have about their writing as well as give overall feedback on the paper.
During the fall 2001 semester, the OWL tutors and staff responded to 328 papers, nearly twice the number from the previous semester. The OWL is proven to be a fast, free, and effective way for students to receive additional feedback on their writing. In anonymous OWL surveys, many students comment that an OWL has helped them to revise and improve their papers and has had an impact on their course grades.
