WAUKESHA The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha is still taking applications for the summer and fall 2002 semesters even though the UW System Board of Regents has announced a suspension of admissions.
The admissions suspension applies to admissions for fall, not summer, said UW-Waukesha Dean Brad Stewart. We are admitting students for summer sessions and accepting applications for fall. In fact, we encourage all students to apply as early as they can.
UW System President Katharine Lyall also announced that current UW-Waukesha students participating in the UW Colleges Guaranteed Transfer Program are not affected by the admissions suspension. Students participating in the Guaranteed Transfer Program are guaranteed admission to other UW System schools after meeting various criteria.
Since applications are not suspended, we are encouraging all of our students who intend to transfer, whether they are participating in the Guaranteed Transfer Program or not, to apply as soon as possible to the UW institution to which they intend to transfer, said Stewart.
According to UW System Board of Regents President Jay L. Smith, We realize this is an anxious time for students and parents. Yet it is only wise not to proceed any further with admissions until we are sure we have the resources necessary to meet our obligations to our students and provide them with a quality education. The UW System is an excellent value and we must preserve it.
Smith has reiterated that the UW System has pledged to manage Gov. McCallums proposed $51 million cut to the university, but additional cuts proposed by the Joint Finance Committee and the Assembly Republican Caucus would eliminate the UWs ability to accommodate more students.
