WAUKESHA An outgrowth of the Jazz in Literature course at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha, the annual Jazz & Poetry Jam will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, in the dining area in the Commons on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. The free evening of entertainment is open to the public.
In its 5th year, the Jazz & Poetry Jam, held in April, celebrates National Poetry Month by providing a creative outlet for students as well as others. The dining area is set to effect a coffee-house-like atmosphere for the evening.
Members of the campus Jazz Ensemble will perform, and students in the class will read their original poetry. An open mic will follow, giving other students, faculty, staff, and members of the community an opportunity to read their own work.
Offered each spring semester, the 3-credit, interdisciplinary Jazz in Literature course is team taught by Phil Zweifel, associate professor of English, and Craig Hurst, director of bands and associate professor of music.
