WAUKESHA University of Wisconsin-Waukesha multi-cultural student advisor and pre-college program coordinator Anna San Diego has been named Woman of Color for 2002. The University of Wisconsin Colleges, which comprises the UW Systems 13 freshman/sophomore campuses, each year confers the honor on a member of its faculty or staff.
San Diego, who lives in Milwaukee, works closely with young people of color both at the campus and in the community. She serves as the advisor of student groups OLLA (Organization of Latin American Leaders) and AAU (African American Union) and coordinates the pre-college after school and summer programs for middle school and high school students. Recent expansions in these programs have resulted from her energy, enthusiasm, creativity and sincere interest in students.
She serves as an academic advisor for new freshman minority students and works closely with the UW-Waukesha students who are hired to mentor pre-college participants. San Diego encourages all students to set goals, aim high and explore options for higher education. |
