WAUKESHA University of Wisconsin-Waukesha assistant professor of physical education and womens basketball coach Jack Hervert has been chosen by his peers in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as Junior College Coach of the Year. This is his second such award. He will be honored at a ceremony October 12 in Madison.
This year Hervert also was elected Womens Coach of the Year by both the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference. (WCC) and by the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association (WJCAA)
He has coached the UW-Waukesha women Cougars for 12 seasons and compiled at 260-77 win/loss record. In the past 10 years, his teams have earned nine WCC titles and appeared in eight WJCAA tournaments, winning five championships and twice finishing as runner-up. They suffered only a single loss in the 2001-02 season and that to a Division 1 school during a holiday tournament.
In 1998, Hervert became a member of the executive board of the WBCA, the same year the group honored him with his first and the organizations inaugural Coach of the Year award.
A physical education graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Hervert earned a bachelors degree in 1983 and a masters in 1985 and added a minor in health education in 1989 from UW-Stevens Point. In 1998 he joined the faculty at UW-Waukesha.
A native of Tomahawk, he began his coaching career at schools in the Wausau area. Hervert lives in Milwaukee. |
