WAUKESHA The Friends & Alumni of UWW, Inc., the foundation that provides scholarship funds and other support to the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha, is holding a reception Tuesday, May 7, at 5:00 p.m. to honor donors, recognize volunteers, and welcome the new director. These supporters, who help UW-Waukesha accomplish its mission, will gather in the student lounge in the Commons at 1500 N. University Drive.
In early March, Katie Miller, Oconomowoc, moved into the directors position, which had been vacant since last summer. Previously, she had managed annual giving at Carroll College in 1998-99 and worked for the United Way of Waukesha County before that. Most recently she had been doing part-time consulting and volunteer work while she cared for her young daughters, ages 3 years and 5 months. As a loaned executive to the United Way last year, she helped raise $5.4 million. Miller holds a degree in Communications from UW-Milwaukee.
Im excited to be working with such a great team of staff and volunteers who really care about this University and the success of our students, Miller said.
Russ Launder, Oconomowoc, president of the foundation board of directors, believes that the professional experience Miller brings to the foundation will help it succeed in the current, challenging environment: Private support from our donors enables the F&A Foundation to better serve students at UW-Waukesha. This support becomes increasingly important because of the projected budget cuts at the state level. Students will need our help more than ever to meet their goals.
Miller aims to do just that. One of our goals is to increase the number and amount of scholarships we can award. Many outstanding students cannot be recognized with scholarships. We hope to change that.
Millers campus phone number is (262) 446-3328.
With an enrollment just over 2,000, UW-Waukesha is the largest of the 13 campuses that comprise the freshman-sophomore University of Wisconsin Colleges. |
