UW-Waukesha Faculty and Staff Promotions Announced

WAUKESHA – The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents has granted promotions to three University of Wisconsin-Waukesha faculty: Joe Essuman, Milwaukee; Mark Lococo, Bay View; and David Skryja, Waukesha. In addition, the University of Wisconsin Colleges has awarded promotions to two UW-Waukesha academic staff, Penny Kelsey, Glendale, and Vicki Paaske, Waukesha.

Essuman, who has been teaching at UW-Waukesha since 1986, has been promoted to professor. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Cape Coast in his native Ghana, and masters’ degrees in public policy and administration and in agricultural economics as well as a doctorate in development economics from UW-Madison. In 1993 he was promoted from assistant to associate professor and was a named a Kaplan Fellow in 1998.

Promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure, Lococo has been teaching communications and directing theater productions at UW-Waukesha since 1999. He graduated from Northwestern University in theater and earned both master’s and Ph.D. degrees from its prestigious Department of Performance Studies. For two years before coming to Waukesha, he was artistic director for Theatre on the Bay at UW-Marinette and had been involved with theater in Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, and Louisville. Last year he was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award, designed to honor excellence in Chicago-area professional theater and this summer has received critical acclaim for his direction of Tom Stoppard’s Indian Ink at the Apple Tree Theatre in Highland Park, IL.

Skryja started teaching at UW-Waukesha in 1976 has been promoted to professor. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Omaha, his master’s from the University of Wyoming and Ph.D. from Arizona State University, both in zoology. Last fall he was named a Kaplan Fellow for his contribution to student learning. He is one of the three founders of the popular interdisciplinary course, “Sex, Lies, and Immorality,” in which he has explained tenets of sociobiology. He was promoted to associate professor in 1983.

Public relations coordinator and editor of the faculty and staff newsletter, Kelsey, who has been at UW-Waukesha since 1988, has been promoted to senior university relations specialist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Marquette University. In January she received an addition to her 50 percent appointment to coordinate fine arts events.

Another former Kaplan Fellow, Paaske has been promoted to lecturer. In addition to her work with the TRIO program in the Study Center, she has been teaching courses in the math department. She came to UW-Waukesha in 1991 and received her master’s degree in education from Carroll College in 1995.

All the promotions are effective July 1, when the state’s new fiscal year begins.
