WAUKESHA A group of 10 artists, half of them poets and the other half fiber artists, have collaboratively assembled a show of their work in Threaded Metaphors: Text & Textiles. It will be on display in the library at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha, 1500 N. University Dr., from November 4 through December 20. Library hours are 7:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Fridays.
On Wednesday, November 6, the artists will discuss their work and the inspiration provided by their fellow collaborators in creating this unique exhibit. The panel discussion is set for 1:00 p.m. in the library, with refreshments to follow. The public is welcome at no charge.
The fiber artists who participated in this project are Connie Tresch, Peggy McGill, Judy Levine, Pat Zalewski, and Sarah Williams. The participating poets include Helen Padway, Mara Ptacek, Phyllis Wax, C. J. Muchhala, and Margaret Rozga.
Rozga, who lives in Waukesha, also is a professor of English at UW-Waukesha. She recently completed an artist-in-residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Otis, Oregon, and will be spending eight weeks at the Ragdale Foundation premises in Lake Forest, IL, as an artist-in-residence this fall and early winter. Last summer she co-taught a UW-Waukesha course on Drawing and Writing Poetry in Response to Nature, which met at the schools Field Station on Waterville Road in Oconomowoc. She often joins groups of performance poets, who turn poetry into a community entertainment.
Part of the Visions & Expressions series at UW-Waukesha, the program is sponsored by the campus University Convocations Committee to enhance the educational experience offered by the University. |
