WAUKESHA Four volleyball players from the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha received honors for their play this season.
Heide Runde, Cuba City, one vote shy of player of the year, was selected for first team all-conference and first team all-state. She and Megan Heritsch, Milwaukee, were named state all-tournament for their play last weekend in the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association tournament
In addition, Lisa Voelkel, Milwaukee, Katie Hugl, Franklin, and Megan Heritsch were given all-conference honorable mention.
In the final round of the state tournament October 26 at UW-Richland Center, the UW-Waukesha Cougars split the first two games with the UW-Washington County Wildcats and lost the final game 15-12, leaving UW-Waukesha as runner-up for the state title.
It was our best season since Mary [Ryan] coached, back in 1994. We played well but came up a little short, commented Jack Hervert, Cougars coach and an assistant professor of physical education at the campus.
UW-Waukesha plays in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference (WCC), along with the other 12 UW Colleges campuses. The WJCAA includes the technical schools as well as the freshman-sophomore campuses of the University of Wisconsin. |
