WAUKESHA Once again student organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha will hold their annual Gathering of Cultures, an evening of fun, free ethnic foods, and entertainment spearheaded by the Diversity Club. On Friday, April 25, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., the UW-Waukesha Commons, 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha, will become a multi-cultural showcase. Admission is $1 but free for children under 12 years old, and the public is invited.
The event concludes a week of campus events celebrating ethnic diversity.
At the Gathering of Cultures, multi-cultural performers will entertain, and the evening will close with a DJ playing modern music. The ethnic performing groups include:
Frogwater, Celtic folk
Bahia, contemporary Latin jazz
Harambee Community School Steppers, African-American step dancers.
Roshani, Middle Eastern dancers
Diversity Club also will hold a raffle to benefit its scholarship fund.
Planned so far for earlier in the week are two public discussions. The Muslim Student Association will hold a session on Understanding Islam: An Interfaith Exploration on Wednesday, April 23, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Commons Conference Room 101. Student Naheed Arshad will lead the presentation.
On Thursday, April 24, the American Indian Cultural Association is sponsoring a public discussion with Dr. Cary Miller, UW-Milwaukee professor in Native American Studies, who will address Womens Roles in Native Communities in Wisconsin and Other Woodland Areas, from 2:30 4:00 p.m. in Northview Hall, Room 055.
