WAUKEHSA Professor and journalist, Patty Loew will speak at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha on Indian Nations of Wisconsin: Histories of Endurance and Renewal, which also is the title of her 2001 book. Her presentation is set for Wednesday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room 101, located in the Commons on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. Part of the campuss Visions & Expressions series sponsored by the University Convocations Committee, the lecture is open to the public at no charge.
Loew is an assistant professor in the Department of Life Science Communication at UW-Madison, a producer for WHA-TV (PBS), and co-host of In Wisconsin, a weekly news and public affairs program that airs statewide on Wisconsin Public Television. Her book on Indian Nations of Wisconsin won the Wisconsin Library Associations 2002 Outstanding Book Award. She has authored dozens of scholarly and general interest articles on Native American topics and produced several award-winning documentaries, including No Word for Goodbye, Spring of Discontent, Throwaway Future, and Nation within a Nation, which have appeared on commercial and public television stations throughout the country.
Loew is an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe.
