WAUKESHA University of Wisconsin-Waukesha professor of English and published poet, Margaret (Peggy) Rozga will lead a workshop on poetry writing Saturday, March 13, on the campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha.
There is a $25 charge for the five-hour workshop, which begins at 10:00 a.m., and space is limited. (A second workshop may be offered in May to accommodate the overflow.) The Poetry People, a collection of performance poets with ties to the university, are sponsoring the event.
A widely published poet, Rozga also writes short fiction, and creative non-fiction narratives and recently held artists residencies at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in central Oregon and at the highly competitive Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, IL. Her work has appeared in literary journals, including the Kerf, the Chaffin Journal, Comstock Review, and the Wisconsin Academy Review, and her poems in anthologies, such as the Nantucket: A Collection and Wisconsin Poets at the Elvehjem. Her poems have been published in the Wisconsin Poets Calendar as well.
Rozga has worked with other artists, both during her residencies and locally. She collaborated with a group of word and visual artists in producing Threaded Metaphors: Text and Textiles, which was displayed on campus and elsewhere and was published in
Porcupine Literary Arts Magazine (Vol. 7, Issue 2, 2003). She is participating in the exhibit, Poetic Dialogue, shown in the ARC Gallery, 1040 W. Huron, Chicago, this March and will be one of five poets doing readings there on Friday, March 26, at 7:00 p.m.
In addition, Rozga team-taught a course in Drawing and Writing Poetry in Response to Nature last summer at the UW-Waukesha Field Station and will again in 2004. She also serves as a poetry judge for the Net Poetry and Art Competition (NPAC).
Currently she is working on a memoir detailing her work in the civil rights movement and will use her own poems to introduce and summarize the themes of the major sections.
