WAUKESHA For the fifth straight year, University of Wisconsin-Waukesha has extended its theater season beyond fall and spring to summer, with Jeff Smerz directing a production for the entertainment of community audiences. This year Smerz, who during the academic year serves as the theater manager, has set his focus on the under 8 crowd.
A cast of four UW-Waukesha students will present Cinderella Goes Disco, a 45-minute interactive update on an old fairy tale. In this version, written by Shubert Fendrich, the prince has invited all the girls in the kingdom to a disco dance at the palace. Cinderella, alas, cannot go, because she has no disco dress. Enter the fairy godmother, who tells her the stories of Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast, convincing Cinderella to dance in royal style.
Performances will be Monday-Friday, August 1-5 and 8-12, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre located in the Fine Arts Center on campus at 1500 N. University Dr. All tickets are $3 and may be purchased in advance by phoning (262) 521-5469 or at the door a half hour before each performance.
Appearing on stage will be:
