WAUKESHA – Matt Miller, who did a one-day musician-in-residency at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha in 2004, will be back Wednesday, February 15. After meeting with classes and conducting a master class with music students during the day, he will give a 7:00 p.m. recital in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, located in the Fine Arts Center on campus at 1500 N. University Dr.
The recital is open to the public, and he is requesting a $5 donation.
A classical guitarist for five years, Miller, who started college at UW-Marinette and graduated from UW-Whitewater, is the first graduate student in UW-Milwaukee’s classical guitar program, which is directed by Rene Izquierdo. At UW-Whitewater, he studied under Professor George Lindquist. He’s been in master classes conducted by David Tannenbaum, Ricardo Cobo, David Russell, Ana Vidovic, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, and Jason Vieaux and performed with Jorge Morel, Jorge Caballero, and Sergio and Odair Assad.
In addition to learning guitar, he is doing research on sitting positions for guitarists, adapting the respiratory ergonomic principles of the Alexander Technique to conserve energy during a performance. He also has founded a student guitar organization at UW-Milwaukee and is working to establish a scholarship fund for guitar majors in the UW System.
