UW-Waukesha Holds Reception to Introduce New Dean

WAUKESHA – The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha invites the public to a reception on Sunday, February 19, to welcome its new dean, Patrick Schmitt, who became the campus executive officer January 2. Doors open at 2:00 p.m. in the student lounge adjoining the lobby of the Commons Building on the campus, located at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha.

A short program featuring an address by Dean Schmitt will begin at 2:45 p.m. He will speak on “The Shape of Things to Come: The Value of the Liberal Arts,” presenting his vision of the place of the campus and of higher education in the community.

“I am particularly interested in expanding educational opportunity for the residents of Waukesha County and the whole southeastern Wisconsin region,” Schmitt stresses, “and in strengthening ties with the community.”

Schmitt comes to Waukesha from South Suburban College in South Holland, IL, where he served as associate vice president of instruction for the past six years. He holds a Ph.D. in 20th century American theater and drama with an emphasis on dramatic theory and criticism from UW-Madison and later studied instructional technology at the University of South Florida, Tampa. In addition to his extensive administrative experience, he has taught at colleges in Florida and Tennessee and published several scholarly papers.

The reception runs until 5:00 p.m.

UW-Waukesha has the largest enrollment among the 13 freshman-sophomore University of Wisconsin Colleges campuses. For information about programs, admission, or financial aid, contact the Student Services office at (262) 521-5200 or visit the Web at waukesha.uwc.edu.
