WAUKESHA – Founded in 1909 by Robert M. LaFollette to be “a magazine of progress, social, intellectual, institutional,” The Progressive magazine, edited by Matthew Rothschild, has become one of the leading voices for peace and social justice in the country.
Rothschild will speak on “The Iraq War: The Wages of Lawlessness” at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha on Wednesday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. in student lounge in the Commons Building on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. Sponsored by the campus Lectures & Fine Arts Committee, the program is open to the public at no charge.
In his presentation, Rothschild will discuss the human costs of war, ways our current war has increased the risk of terrorism, the financial burden it imposes, how it affects our world image, and why we should get out of Iraq – and stay out of Iran.
A graduate of Harvard University, Rothschild has been with The Progressive magazine since 1983 and took over as editor in 1994, when longtime editor Erwin Knoll died. Previously he edited the Multinational Monitor, founded by Ralph Nader. He is a frequent guest on shows with political content, including C-SPAN, NPR, the O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, and Nightline, and his commentary has run in newspapers across the country, from Milwaukee and Chicago to Miami and Los Angeles. He hosts a weekly half-hour syndicated radio show and does a daily syndicated two-minute radio commentary.
UW-Waukesha has the largest enrollment among the 13 freshman-sophomore campuses of the University of Wisconsin Colleges. For information about programs, admission, or financial aid, contact the Student Services office at (262) 521-5200 or visit the Web at waukesha.uwc.edu.
