WAUKESHA – Julia Bennker, a
young Milwaukee artist, is showing some recent drawings and
photographs at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha in the Fine Arts
Center Gallery on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., The exhibit
opened January 17 and runs through February 23.
There will be an opening
reception for the artist on Sunday, January 28, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
The public is welcome.
Admission is free. For
information about gallery hours or private viewings, please phone
(262) 521-5494.
A graduate of the Milwaukee
Institute of Art and Design, Bennker incorporates elements from all
her studies, including painting, sculpture, video, photography, and
performance, in her work. In the current exhibit, “Center of
Gravity,” she uses graphite and charcoal drawings as well as
photography to explore the questions life poses to her. The answers
matter less than the process of searching. She centers herself
between creating and living and enjoys the result.
She spent a year after her
graduation in an AmeriCorps VISTA program organizing service
learning opportunities at the UW-Waukesha campus.
UW-Waukesha has the largest
enrollment among the 13 freshman-sophomore University of Wisconsin
Colleges campuses, which offer Associate of Arts & Science degrees
and the best start toward a bachelor’s degree and unlimited career
opportunities. For information about programs, admission, or
