WAUKESHA – For the fifth consecutive year, University of Wisconsin-Waukesha faculty and students have collaborated on research projects. They will present their outcomes at a symposium Saturday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. to around 2:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Commons on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Sixteen students will present their papers in two morning sessions and one afternoon session At 11:15 am, M. Mahmum Hossain, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry at UW-Milwaukee will give a key note address and a free lunch will follow. The day will conclude with the awarding of certificates at about 2:30 p.m.
Unusual in the academic world for freshmen and sophomores, the 16 students undertook projects with their professors. They investigated a variety of topics:
9:00 a.m. –
- “Mitochondrial Ancestry” by Erin Maloney (Colgate); faculty mentor, Paul Zillgitt,
biology.
- “Symbiotic Relationship between Algaculture and Anaerobic Digestion by
Christopher Zahm (Oconomowoc) and Laura Ziegler (Sussex); faculty mentor,
Paul Zillgitt.
- “The Effects of Bacterial Contamination on the Fermentation of Cellulose to Ethanol”
by Lindsay Hamilton (Waukesha), Robert Norris (Hartland), Joon-jae Park
(Waukesha) and Jessica Wolfson (Wauwatosa); faculty mentor, Asif Habib,
Chemistry.
