WAUKESHA –The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha
Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Hand Bell Choir will present
their annual spring concert Friday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in
the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, located in the Fine Arts Center on
campus at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. Admission is free,
and the public is invited.
The program opens with the Jazz Ensemble,
led by director of bands
Craig Hurst and performing works by Rich Matterson, Charles
Mingus, and Herbie Hancock, but all the arrangements were constructed
by the Ensemble and its director.
Then, the Hand Bell Choir, directed by
Nancy Van Brunt, will take the stage and do a processional.
It also will perform a rousing rendition of Rock Around the
Clock, originally made famous by Bill Haley and the Comets,
and another atypical hand bell piece, the Errol Garner
arrangement of the classic Misty.
After a brief intermission, the Symphonic
Band will do a couple of relatively new works and close with a
march by Henry Fillmore. Hurst also directs the symphonic band.
Instrumentalists include students and
members of the community.
