WAUKESHA – Once again several
student organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha
will hold a “Gathering of Cultures,” an evening of fun, free
ethnic foods, and entertainment. On Friday, April 27, from 6
p.m. to 12:30 a.m., the UW-Waukesha Commons, 1500 N. University
Dr., Waukesha, will become a multi-cultural showcase. Admission,
food and entertainment all are free, and the public is invited.
The Diversity Club,
African-American Union (AAU) and Organization of Latin Leaders
(OLLA) are sponsoring the event.
The Diversity Club also will conduct a
raffle to raise funds for its scholarship. A $1 raffle ticket (6
for $5) gives the purchaser a chance to win restaurant
certificates, gas cards, fitness club memberships, a digital
camera, signed Green Bay Packer football, and other goodies.
Entertainment draws on a
variety of cultures and includes a live Reggae band; recording
artist Rubin Thigpen doing jazz, blues, and gospel singing;
Latin dancers; a piñata; face-painting, and other children’s
activities.
Ethnic flavors of the world
will be served up. Foods are coming from the Indian Grocery
Shop, Speed Queen BBQ, Mardi Gras, La Estacíon, Casa Del Rio,
Fazoli’s, Feng’s Kitchen, and Good Harvest.
UW-Waukesha has the largest enrollment among the 13 freshman-sophomore University of Wisconsin Colleges campuses. For information about programs, admission, or financial aid, contact the Student Services office at (262) 521-5040 or visit the Web at www.waukesha.uwc.edu.
