WAUKESHA – The University of
Wisconsin-Waukesha, in cooperation with the UW-Extension and the
Master Singers of Milwaukee, is offering the first annual Windy Hill
Choral Institute and Festival Wednesday-Friday, June 25-27, at the
campus, located at 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha. The culminating
festival performance Saturday, June 28, will be at the Hamilton Fine
Arts Center, W220 N6151 Town Line Road, Sussex.
The institute is designed to provide personal
enrichment for choral musicians, music educators, and music industry
personnel.
The program consists of lessons with renowned
vocal coach Shirlee Emmons, exploration of published repertoires,
rehearsals, exercises, exhibits, discussion/consultation, and social
interaction. Among the experts will be children’s choir specialist
Ruth Dwyer and African musical heritage specialist Wallace Cheatham.
In addition, attendees can register for side trips to Ten Chimneys
and Old World Wisconsin.
Jean Ford will be composer-in-residence for the
Institute, and the closing festival performance, directed by Eric
Townell, will include her The Divine Image as well as the
world premier of her The Day Is Done.
