PED 211 - Physical Education for Elementary Schools
Chapter 6
- Motor skills are termed fundamental skills because they are
the building blocks for more specialized sport, dance and gymnastic
activities
- These skills need to be learned so students can learn more
advanced skills and movement patterns
- Mature motor patterns are fully developed - does not relate
to adult status. (Skill related, not age related.) Some adults
can't do mature movement patterns in some fundamental motor skills
(overhand throw). And if it's not in place by a certain age, it
may never be acquired. So the elementary years are a crucial time
for optimum development.
