Students must apply for admission and be accepted to UW-Waukesha before they can register for courses. A paper version of the UW System Application for Undergraduate Admission (available from UW-Waukesha or local high schools) can be submitted through the mail or an electronic application can be submitted on-line at http://apply.wisconsin.edu/. New Freshmen are degree-seeking students who have not earned any college degree credits after graduation from high school. Students who have earned Advanced Placement credits or college credits while still enrolled in high school are considered new freshmen. New freshmen can attend full-time or part-time and can be traditional students (less than age 22) or adult students (ages 22 and older).
Transfer Students have attended another college or university after graduating from high school and before applying to UW-Waukesha.
Re-Entry Students have attended UW-Waukesha in the past, but were not enrolled at UW-Waukesha in the semester immediately preceding their application for re-entry.
Special Students Students are considered “special" students if they are community members taking courses for self-enrichment, they are enrolled at another college or university and need to take a course or two at UW-Waukesha, or they have been out of college for some time and want to start back by taking a few courses. Special Students are not eligible for veterans' benefits or for financial aid.
Auditors & Senior Citizen Auditors are special students enrolling in courses on a non-graded basis. Students taking only audit courses during a term, pay a reduced tuition rate. Senior auditors enroll for no charge on a space-available basis.
High School Special & Youth Options Students are high school juniors and seniors who are taking college courses while still enrolled in high school. High school special and Youth Options students work with their high school guidance counselor and an advisor at UW-Waukesha to select appropriate courses. Youth Options students also need the approval of their local school board for the courses they select. High school special students are responsible for payment of their tuition & fees, while the tuition & fees of Youth Options students are paid by their local school district.
International Students are degree-seeking students who are permitted to enter this country on a student visa for the purpose of studying at a college or university. They are admitted on the basis of superior scholastic ability and must prove the ability to finance their education and living expenses. International students are not eligible to receive financial aid.
