Women's Basketball 2000-2001
Final Record: 26-5
This 26-5 cougar squad was characterized by two different teams.
The first semester featured 4 returning starters (Nicky Carroll...the
all time school's assist leader, Shelly Flanagan....the school'
s all time leader free throw shooter in attempts and makes, Kelly
Maltby, and Regina Burns) who continued the press and run style
that won a state title in 2000. After Burns and Maltby's 2 year
eligibility was completed, the team turned more to it's defense
(set a record for lowest scoring average allowed in conference)
and ran away with the conference, and continued until losing in
the state championship game. Freshmen Annmarie Gigowski, Alissa
Schmidt, Angela Scherrer, and Angela Palesse helped continue the
cougar dominance. Flanagan became only the sixth player to score
over 600 points, Schmidt set a school blocks record, and along with
Carroll had a triple triple (3 digits in 3 different categories,
the first time 2 players have achieved that in one season), and
Coach Jack Hervert won his 250th game. It was the 4th consecutive
20 win season for UW-Waukesha.
